Strange But True

At 5 o’clock the news starts on channel 13 my favorite news cast. Then at 5:30 the national news comes on, then at 6 o’clock the rest of the channel 13 local news comes on. So the national news is sandwiched in between the local news, yeah strange but true.

In Ypsilanti I was fortunate to be able to get news from two states and two countries. Channel 11 and 13 were from Ohio. Channel 9 was from Canada. I listened often to channel 9 cbc.com because they sometimes gave a very different take on world news and news from Washington, D.C. You find out very quickly how much truth you are getting from the US newspapers.

I am not close enough to the border to get any TV broadcasts from Mexico. I am able to get the Home Shopping Network and I assure you that I can get in Spanish also. Strange to be able to see HSN in Spanish. There is one station Telemundo that is not close captioned so I can’t get it translated to English 😦 I don’t watch HSN as they spend too much time on each item they are selling. I can’t listen to people talking about something I don’t want to buy. I have the close captioned turned on my TV so when I watch CSI Miami I get to see the Spanish translated into English. If I watch enough I will learn some more Spanish words. There is a kids program on Saturday morning that uses a lot of Spanish so I should tune in more often.

Tonight is a hard freeze the first for this winter season. I had an interview today and he asked my why Tucson, so I told him. I told him I had a number of items I was looking for:taxes, income, housing, job market, crime, and so on and so forth. The guy interviewing me and I discussed traffic and the weather as compared to other states. On my way home I mailed the rent check and stopped at Wendy’s mostly because I had to go to the bathroom. On my way out I picked up a job application as the sign on the door said ‘Hiring Now’. Every time I see a ‘Hiring Now’ sign I am going to get a job application.

There are more Internet job boards for Tucson than in Michigan. I visit around 15 places everyday. I visit the University of Arizona, City of Tucson, and the State of Arizona websites and all the rest of the websites I visit are job boards. When I get an interview for a job I immediately try to find their website. But more strange but true, less businesses down here have websites than in Michigan but there are ore Internet job boards, yup, strange but true.
