I heard somewhere that John Lennon

Used to read all the daily newspapers. You can become a pretty smart person if you do that. I know the newspapers are biased but the facts can be disputed. Newspapers print retractions all the time about how a previous article or ad was incorrect, they list the wrong data and then list the correct data “we printed x24 when we should have printed x23”. Unlike the Internet which is not the same.  The Internet isn’t the same yet I should say because perhaps sometime in the future there will be more fact checking and retracting.

Anyway my gut tells me that is where John Lennon got the inspiration for ‘A Day In The Life’ song 1967 released on the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. I heard he used to eat Kellogg’s Corn Flakes also. My gut tells me that is where he got the inspiration for ‘Good Morning, Good Morning’ song also on the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The TV ad for the Corn Flakes featured a Rooster and it went ‘good morning, good morning’ and so on and so forth.

Yesterday I was looking at videos on www.youtube.com. I was looking for videos of Ayn Rand and I found some. She was interviewed by Mike Wallace, Phil Donahue and Tom Synder. When I was done looking up Ayn Rand I started looking at Penn & Teller, then I started looking at other stuff. I got this bright idea to look up stuff for the Beatles. I found some interviews of all the Beatles. I also found interviews with Julian Lennon and interviews with Sean Lennon. I discovered that I like Julian but I don’t like Sean. Julian sure looks a lot like John Lennon but Sean makes himself look like John only because he wears the same type of glasses and has a similar beard. If Sean takes off the glasses and shaves the beard he will look like himself.

But while I was doing that I decided to look up on the Internet anything about my mother’s mother. Well I found her all right. Some distant relative of mine has done extensive research into his past. It isn’t a complete genealogy but it has a lot of information anyway. I don’t know the date she married but I do know when she was born. I also know when her husband was born and when he died. I also have a picture of my Great Grandfather and a picture of my Great Grandmother. Here is the picture of my Grandmother:

and here are her mother and father my Great Grandparents:

EmmaWestonMyGreatGrandmother   FentonJeffersonPardeeMyGreatGrandfather So I was reading the genealogy and then I went back to finding stuff. It hit me all of a sudden.  Maybe it listed where my Grandmother and Grandfather were born!!! So I went back to reading the genealogy. Hmmmmm my Grandmother was NOT born in Norway.  The picture above is of her high school graduation and I know this because of the name on it was her maiden name. The genealogy goes way back to 1567. My ancestors on my mother’s side were English. The ancestors on my father’s side were English, Welsh and Celtic.

So then it bothered me that my Grandmother was not Norwegian. I remember my mom saying that they were both Norwegian. So then I had to find the answer. I went to a place on the Internet and found some information about my Grandfather. It looks like he went through Ellis Island at the age of 12. He was in World War One. He was a carpenter specifically a house carpenter. He was 10 years older than my Grandmother. At the time of the 1930 census he was NOT a naturalized citizen. At the time of the census neither of them had any college. My Great grandfather was dead and my Great grandmother was listed as head of household. It also listed that it was a farm. It did not list the address though. I mention college because my mom said my Grandmother graduated from Michigan Normal College in 1920.  So then if the census is correct my mom is wrong. But she also said they were both Norwegian.

So…..in the final analysis I am not 50 per cent Norwegian I am only 25 per cent Norwegian.

I did laundry today

And I didn’t leave home to do it. Last Sunday a former co-worker and her husband brought over a washer & dryer. They just bought a house and it came with a better washer and dryer than the one they had. She called me up and said I could have the old ones so I said yes and they brought them over and hooked them up and everything. It is so different being able to do laundry and not have to go to the laundromat. I decided I had better wash my clothes today just in case either machine did not work and then I would have some time to go to the laundromat should I need to. The only fly in the ointment is it only does hot water. The spigot on the cold has been removed so I need to get a new one and put it on and then turn on the cold water. I don’t want to use hot water for laundry. I want to save energy (gas hot water heater). So now of course the electric bill will go up. On the other hand, I don’t have to save quarters to do laundry 🙂

I did not buy a newspaper today I went to craigslist.org to find who was having a garage sale. Today I started earlier in the day to go garage saleing because I didn’t have to do laundry, but it still was not early enough. I did get some more things though. Now my list is shorter. Only one person so far has looked at me funny for asking them to fill out a receipt from the receipt book I carry with me. Everybody else has been very nice. Now I carry coupons so that the next person that asks what business and where and is interested I can give them a coupon. I have two coupons, one is free and one is for 60% off.

I have been waiting and waiting for a fax with some paperwork from the IRS but it has not come. One place on the irs.gov/ website says four business days and one place says about a week. It has been four days and Monday it will be a week. Perhaps I should try to fill out other paperwork that I need to without this orginal paperwork.

Before Friday I had entered vendors and employees into QuickBooks. Friday I started entering checks and then started on credit card transactions. Then I will do the bank statements. As soon as I get the paperwork that I talked about above I will be able to to payroll. I now have the boss’s Accountant’s contact info so next time I have a question I can ask her. I figured out one problem so far.

Monday the cash register comes back. Somehow i think the circuit was fried on it so they had to take it and reprogram it. Now we have an outlet to plug it into that we didn’t have before, we were using an extension cord and the whole electric issue in the office was a mess. We had an electrician come in and do some stuff, he finishes on Monday. I am not so sure about the cash register I have been using a computer one so this will be an adjustment. The boss is counting on me to be able to ring up people so tomorrow I study the book and Monday I will take notes. I have been taking pictures of all the things we have been getting, to use as inventory.

Thursday I hooked up the camera to my computer and transferred the pics and saved them. Then I went to craigslist.org and posted a free ad. I uploaded the pics of an oil drum we wanted to get rid of. I got one call on the business phone Friday and two emails. The phone call was the first contact I had and he wanted it bad. I promised him I would reserve it for him. Well 11 am Friday came and went and he didn’t show up so I got worried because he said he would be there by then. I figured that I would either contact the other two people that were interested or re-post the ad. The guys came in and and said the oil drum was gone. I breathed a sigh of relief. Just think! I made it happen by just a few clicks of the mouse.

And yes I have been looking at the free ads on craigslist.org to try to find some of the stuff on my list. We needed a refrigerator and one ad had three but you had to take all three :(.

You have to be very careful

When you are in a parking lot whether you are in a familiar place or somewhere far from all your friends. People act differently in a parking lot they forget all the rules of the road. So when I get in my car from shopping I back out very slowly and carefully, constantly looking, keep looking in all directions. I never know when some little kid is going to run out or a car that wasn’t looking backs out at the same time, all sorts of stuff can happen. A parking lot is one of the most dangerous places in the world.

While driving around town I see a new place to take a picture of the mountains (all though I haven’t started taking any yet so be patient please). I know I won’t remember all the places so when I do go take some I guess I will have to spend the whole weekend taking them from all over town.

I finally got my last monthly bill so I will go online and pay it that way. Next month they will all be a lot less money as no activation fee or deposit required.

I think my neighbors are going to move. They loaded a bunch of furniture on the pick up truck and have removed the outdoor welcome mats and removed the decoration from the door. ‘Course I could be wrong.

Now that the temperature is in the 90’s instead of 100’s the edge is off and has gotten quite comfy as far as temp. I think it is supposed to rain in December-January but it won’t be so hot or humid so it will be interesting to be able to compare Dec-Jan rain with August-September. School starts mid August out here. It is hot and rainy anyway so the kids can’t really enjoy it. In the morning and in the afternoon when you drive in a school zone the signs are out in the road and EVERYONE slows down to 15 miles per hour between the signs.

The odd little coincidence is that I work just blocks from where that trailer park was that I tried to get a place. Stores I like to shop at that are very close to where I work: Target, Jo-Ann’s, Michaels and Borders 🙂

🙂

So far and this is end of day three I think everything went well only one big mistake so far and my new boss was so nice. It has been a while since I answered the phones so I forgot about the dreaded sales people. I let one in and he suggested a solution so it won’t happen again. He told me part of what he said to the sales guy. The sales guy hung up on him. I wish I could remember what my boss said but something along the lines of do I get fries with that and other questions along that line. I feel for the sales guy.

W…. (the other person in the office) and I are trying to keep up with D.. (my new boss). D.. is so funny. OK so at first I don’t know how the phones work. So D.. buzzes me and W…. says ‘you gotta pick it up’ and D.. says ‘yeah H…. you gotta pick it up’. Your phone rings a lot and he says ‘can you come in here?’ It is something new he wants you to add to your list (which you must work on and keep him updated as to what the heck is going on). Then when he is done he says ‘OK we’re done’. Sometimes you barely get settled back in your chair and he buzzes you again and instead of saying ‘can you come in here?’ he says ‘you’re not getting off that easy come on back in here’.
